Shaving with a SE Star Razor
I got a Star razor a few months back. Do you hone the wedge the same as you would a str8? I would love to get it sharpened and use it along with my str8's. Thank You

Thanked: 5A razor that uses single edge blades? The blades are disposable. You need to buy some SE blades; there is no honing.

JSan2260,
If these were the early thick Star blades, IIRC there used to available a small dished hone (similar to those for the valet AutoStrop razors) which would be good for your needs.
Depending on the year of manufacture, modern, thin SE blades might not fit - something to do with the blade stops ?
I cannot remember what the cut-off date is
I have heard of people honing the older 'wdege' blades as you would a straight. Depending on the degree of hollow-ness of the blade, you might (or not) benefit from a couple of layers of tape on the spine.
Good luck !
Have fun !
regards
Russ

PhatMan thank you for the info. It's an earlier model and a standard SE blade doest work in it. I will try to hone it like a regular str8 and see want happens. This may test my beginners honing skills and be a learning experience.
Thank You

If I'm not mistaken, I think Feather makes an SE blade that fits the Valet/Star razors.

Thanked: 275Feather _does_ make the SE blades, they seem to be interchangeable Feather / Valet SE razors. I don't know about the Star. If the "key" on the Star is little bits of metal around the center of the blade (that the blade has to fit around), it's worth trying.
They're available from Razor Blades and More:

I got it honed up and tried it. Had some burn but I think that was because of to much pressure and angles. Will use it in my totation for sure.
Methos here is a pic
