Got my DE and shavette today. Tried a bit with the shavette and the blade seemed to dull quickly. Maybe I was holding it wrong. Switched over to the DE to finish up. Did a decently close shave with multiple passes, even on my scalp. There was some blood, but no cuts. Face and head are burning pretty good, even 2 hours later now. lol

What materials did you shave with? Any pre-shave oil? Aftershave lotion, or the use of a Alum block?

When I was just starting out on my technique, the Alum block helped get rid of the razor burn. After a while I didn't need it anymore. I still use it from time to time for nicks. But a pre-shave oil really helps keep the burn down. It lets the razor glide much better. Then some lotion after helps out a bunch.

I used Udderly Smooth as a pre shave after a hot shower. Proraso cream in tube for lather, with 5 drops glycerine.

I was talking with my cousin and he suspects the razor in the shavette may have gone bad from exposure. He read air and time can dull them. No idea what brand injector blade it is, but I suspect its the blade that came in it before it was gifted to me. I'll have to see what else there is for injectors. I'm not at all unhappy with the DE, I think I need a variety pack of blades ASAP and more experience and that will be great.

Atlanta Barber Supply has the blades for that shavette pretty cheap.

Had a much better shave this morning with a new Dorco blade. Could tell it was starting to dull by the end of the third pass. Much much less razor burn, some ingrown hairs and scabs from previous attempts made it a little tricky. Letting my scalp heal before I attempt that again.

Gotta wait till after mothers day and one of my kid's birthdays before I can order anything else. My lady (I dont' deserve her) spent the money I was gonna spend on her mothers day gift on the razor I was pining after.
