Blades
Ok, I'm running out of blades fast. Shaving my head kills them quick. Using Dorco's that were donated to me currently. I figure one head shave is equal to 3 or 4 face shaves. I need to get some new ones pronto so I'm not going back to the fusion while I wait on the mail. I know everyone suggests sample packs. But I'd like to know what everyone's favorite blades are and why? Does anyone have a list or a link to one, of blades and their attributes? A list of the cheapest places to get the good ones and links to some better sampler packs?
Thanks ahead of time.
I know this is STRAIGHT Razor Place, but I'm surprised there's not a section under equipment for blades or at least a sticky in here for them.

Ron,
Give these a try. I have used them for a number of years and like them:
1. Gillette 7 O'Clock "SharpEdge" in the yellow packs.
2. Derby.
3. Personna "red packs."
4. Astra
5. Gillette Perma-Sharp Super Stainless
These should give you a good start.

What do you like about each of them? Is that list in order of preference?

Believe it or not, I actually like the Wilkinson Sword blades. They pair up nicely with older non-adjustable Gillettes.

Ron,
They are quality blades: sharp and smooth. I especially like the Gillette "SharpEdge" yellows and the Gillette Perma-Sharp Super Stainless. The Derby blades work quite well in my Joris, the formidable open comb razor. The Personna "reds" are not as sharp as the others here, but they are quite smooth. The reason I did not mention Feather, the sharpest blade on earth, is because, for me, they die after the first shave. When I finish my big stash of them, they will stay gone from my shave den. The Astra blades are quite sharp, but they lack the smoothness of the others.

I like the Derby or Persona, but I find that it really depends on your razor. Some blades will feel like garbage in one razor, but like silk in another. Maybe that's overstating, but I think you get the picture. I suggest you get a sample pack and try a couple of different types. Try each one at least a couple of times, if not more before you give up, unless it's really uncomfortable. Even then, don't get rid of the rest, just hang on until later time and try again. Just a suggestion. I found some of the blades I felt were so so at first, but I liked later on.

Well the reason I ask is, instead of just ordering a random sampler, I think I'd like to build my own sampler on one of the websites that has good prices on 5 packs. It seems that most samplers offer 2 or 3 of the type that get recommended on here a lot, and then they throw in a bunch of stuff nobody ever mentions. So I thought I'd take a poll and built a sampler from that. We really out to build a sticky on blades, eh?

Best price I've found so far for "build your own" sampler pack.
Anybody have a cheaper source than Razor Blades and More Co. | For all your blades and razor needs! ?

Ron,
You've been given ample information on blades to get you started. From here on a little bit of research on your own will give you the best prices for your budget. Good luck.
