Life is Beautiful
Gentlemen,
Here is my modest Joris open comb collection. The Joris is formidable in its aggressiveness, shaving much like a straight razor, really. The Joris reminds of a beautiful woman who is also dangerous.

Obie, I love seeing all your different DE set ups and collections, makes me want to look into these little beauties more. In fact, I'm sitting in the parking lot right now waiting for the antique store to open because I saw another old Gillette there for $5 I'll post pics later

Nice razors Obie. Since being bitten by the DE and SE bugs I have been thinking of a Joris. What blade do you prefer in them?

Thanks for the kind words.
The Feather bombed in the Joris for me. Just as well, too, because I really do not like Feather blades any longer. Super Iridium did not fare any better. Gillette 7 O'Clock "SharpEdge" yellow pack, Perma-Sharp Super — another Russian blade and close to the Gillette yellows — Personna red and Derby all did well in the razor. I also use Astra blades, but I have not tried them yet in the Joris.
Yes, the Joris is an experience. It's a beautiful razor, but also formidable. I find myself stretching more with the Joris than I do sith any other double edge razor, as much as I do with the straight.

Thanked: 1195Beautiful razors Obie. Are these recent acquisitions or did you get all your Joris razors at the same time?

Hello Ryan,
Thanks for the kind words. These are all relatively new acquisitions. I must say, since using them the past few months, most of my other DE razors, including the Edwin Jaggers and the vintage Gillettes, sit idle.

This morning I tested the Personna reds in the Joris and they performed poorly. Thus far the best blades I have found — for me — for the Joris are the Gillette 7 O'Clock "SharpEdge" yellow packs and the Perma-Sharp Super. They are similar blades, both produced in Russia. I dare say, I have come to regard the 7 O'Clock yellow as the Magic Blade. For me, it is perfect in every respect in all the DE razors I have used, from vintage to modern, mild to aggressive, open or closed comb. From here on I will load the Joris with these two blades only for possibly two shaves each or maybe three.
