Thanked: 88Thanks for the information Obie! This is the first ball end razor I've seen on that site without a split handle. I'm guessing they have a problem with over-tightening the handle? At any rate, I've been looking for an old open comb razor, and your account of these ones not being too aggressive compared to other open comb razors is reassuring.

Great buy! I am not using DE of any type, although I have some (four, exactly) but this one looks great. A lovely open comb!
I only have one open comb, the Fatip, which I sometimes use when I travel.

I would have bid higher than that--if i'd seen it. great catch. i'm going to catch a deal someday on a cracked handle job, then antlerize it. still looking for OC number one.

They can Bite, one of gillette more aggressive razors, just use a very shapr brand of blade, and no pressure and you will find it an amazing shave, i have a gold plated version of that same razor and it is one of my favourites to use... i do do passes with it and minor touch ups,... one of 2 razors i can do that with
but they are aggressive,.. no where near R41 but closer to that then say a tech modelJames -"I got into trouble once, and have remained there ever since"

the NEW and old types are easy to tell the different, the old types have the "bullet" pins on head that go through the baseplate to align, the NEWs dont have them they have a couple of small tabs that is into the top of the baseplate, and nothing passes through them,...
you can see a tonne of pictures of all of gillettes offerings at Mr Razors website, east way to date and identify razorsJames -"I got into trouble once, and have remained there ever since"

I have close to the same razor execpt mine doesn't have the ball end. That one is more of an aggressive razor. I agree with Syngent, you don't need any pressure to produce a nice close shave. Happy shaving!!
