    Default Suggest a blade ? ? ?

Back when I last used a double edged safety razor about the only blades available were ones like Wilkinson, and Gillette.

I know the experience is very subjective but are there any BLADE suggestions for someone looking to get back into shaving with a safety razor?

Get a blade sampler from your choice of online vendors. Try them all, everyone has their own favorite, and not everyone agrees.

Wilkinson Swords are still available at Wal Mart, btw. They are my personal favorite.

There are so many out there you have quite a choice and they all perform differently for each person and with each razor so you need to experiment.

I still use Wilkinson Sword blades once in a while. I get them from my local supermarket.
I've also had great use from Derby Extras; so far they are my favorite. I will be trying Astra and Crystal blades next, since I have been hearing great things about them from users.

I would suggest buying a sample pack or two from some of the online vendors and trying as many as you can; everyone's opinion differs, so instead of being stuck with 10 or 20 blades you don't like you can try it and go from there.

I've tried perhaps a dozen different blades now. My favorites are Astra SP's. Extra smooth and sharp.

I usually use Astra SPs. I also love Gillette Nacet but use them sparingly as they are difficult to come by.

I use Astra SP as well. They have great deals for them on amazon. I have tried feather and they were very sharp and caused me a few necks I would have never gotten with my Astra blades. I have also tried mekur blades when i first got my DE and they weren't bad. I have been thinking of trying the Wilkinson blades.

A sample pack is the way to go. Everyone is different on how they react to how a blade feels and works for them in their particular DE razor. Personally I bought a bulk pack of Astra SPs, dialed the setting in on my Fat Boy DE and have not had the urge to try anything else. Maybe I just got lucky with my first choice but they work so well for me I am content.

Blades are a very subjective subject. Get a large sampler pack and go through it. Use the 5 blades in each pack before changing to a different blade, because you'll need those five consecutive shaves to really get to know a blade. You can get good sampler packs at Bullgoose Shaving or West Coast Shaving.
