Can a plating or auto wheel shop disassemble, inspect, and repair the razor? I would not sent my auto's wheels to Razor Emporium for a Revamp, so why would I send my razor to a random metal plating shop or auto wheel shop?
Here check out the process, How it's Made: The Razor REVAMP I would like to say the old adage "you get what you pay for" would apply here.Aloha,

Not expensive example: Revamp with silver plate = $55 that includes return shipping.
Break down
Shipping: 5-10$
ultrasonic bath: 10-15$ (thats what I charged for people to use my cleaner when I did tattoos)
Hourly wage of $7.25/hr lets say it takes them 4-6 hrs total for breakdown, sand, clean, polish, and lube.
that is $29-$43
For a Total of $44 -68
Now even if they got a discount on plating for bulk there is not alot of wiggle room.

Well, I just sent my 1961 Fatboy off for a REVAMP. Only down side is 5-7 week turnaround but I guess you can't rush quality, I will post pictures when it comes in.
