    Default First Shave Tomorrow Morning!

Ok, not my first shave, my first shave with a DE. I bought myself a Merkur Futur. I figure I will have have it forever, so I bought the one I liked. I actually looked through many of our local antique shops and the only "Classic" razor they had was a gold plated one, that they wanted 70$ for.

I also bought a sampler pack of blades. Many blades and I have no idea which one to start with. I know not to start with the Merkur. Astra, 7 am plus, Shark, Crystal, Sharp, etc.

My Soap didn't arrive, so I am going to chance it with with my shaving cream.

Any pointers? I have read a lot and watched the prep videos.

Tips with a Futur? 1 is the most gentle, 6 is the most aggressive. Fwiw, I have mine set at 3.5.

If you've watched the vids you'll have a pretty good idea of what to do, now you just have to try it

Two thoughts come to mind. First, start at a low setting while you're getting the hang of it. You can always dial it up as you start feeling more comfortable. Second, out of the list of blades you provided I'd start with Merkur. The others are sharper blades. I suppose Sharp would be an alternative though.

    Good luck and have fun.

Well, my first DE shave is complete! I used the Merkur Blade, with the Futur set on 1. I loved it. I only did 2 passes, as I wasn't sure how my skin would take it. That being said, it was a much better shave than the electric I use and on par with my Sensor Cartridge shave. Nothing uncomfortable happened, no nicks, cuts etc.

I definitely have to hone my technique around my chin area. Tomorrow I will crank the Futur up to 2 or 3 and do it again. As coarse as my beard is, I will eventually move to a more aggressive blade. I couldn't/wouldn't have moved to a DE without a resource like this forum.
