Blade recommendation.
Looking to get a DE razor for someone as a gift (they were very apposed to straight razor, maybe this will get them going in the right direction ). I picked out a nice razor. But I am completely lost when it comes to blades. As I have read feather seems to be the sharpest, but not best for beginners. What is a good brand that will provide a better shave than a cartage. Thanks!
Just incase it matters I am going to get them the Mühle R89 Grande Razor.

If it was me, I would buy a sample pack. That way they can try different blades to see which one they like better.

Thanked: 67Yep, look up the blade sampler packs from WCS, Bullgoose, etc. That's the best way to go for a person new to DE razors.

A sampler is always a great option, but if you want just one... I'd say either an Astra Platinum or Polsilver Super Iridium.

I think the WCS sampler is great for a newbie. If I were to pick just one blade for a first timer it would be Derby Extra's. Forgiving is what you want while learning and they have got to be the most forgiving blade that I have used.
