Thanked: 10Help with new razor descision.
Hi guys, I've decided to start looking for a new DE. I've had a few over the years, and need some advice. I have used everything from a 1932 TECH which I still have, superspeeds, parkers, EJ's and I'm looking for something more aggressive. I was thinking something like an R41 but without the bling. I'm still trying to head my head (face) around the merkur slant. Any suggestions? I like the parker 3 pieces but would like to try something else. Also, Id prefer not to miss a mortgage payment when I buy this sucker. thanks for any help.................still not sure why I can't use my return button.

The R-41 is unique and there is nothing else like it. I think the slant would be a good choice if funds are a concern.

The Merkur 37C slant is my DE of choice. If you like a slightly longer and heavier razor the 39C is the same head with the longer and heavier handle. Never tried the R-41 and not inclined to go for the $ because I rarely shave DE and when I do the slant or the Barbasol are satisfactory for me.

The closest thing to an R-41 is, in my opinion, an Open Comb Micromatic Single Edge.

Thanked: 11I have both the 37C and 39C and an R41. To me the R41 is way more aggressive than the slants. I have started using straights, but when I do use a DE it is the 39C. I tend to prefer longer handled razors.

Ryan, you might also consider the Weber. This is a mid-range razor in aggressiveness and an excellent razor all around.

If you're deciding between the Slant and the R41, there isn't much difference in price. Fendrihan lists the Slant (39C) at $58.95 and the R41 at $61. I don't see a 37C listed.
