Default won't be doing that again.

I realized that in my pursuit of the perfect shave that I just might be taking things a little too fast and trying to get too good too soon.

IE my personal technique at this stage is not exactly living up to my expectations even though the straight razor is.

so to compare I decided to shave with a disposable. I did three passes and I would like to say it was a pretty good shave... first it felt like this...then I noticed I couldn't actually get much traction on the razor with my vdh soap...so I had to dig in harder and then after three passes I still couldn't actually tell I had shaved.

and the main reason I'm posting in this forum is that I brought my Parker out of the dug out. I still had to do a pass and a half. now I feel almost as good as I do after shaving with a straight besides the razor burn.

So the verdict is that even though my technique with a straight is not where I want it to be it's still closer than a cartridge by a long shot.

You really can't compare a straight to other razor types. You won't get as close a shave with a cartridge or DE no matter how competent you get with a non straight. Probably the closest you can get is with the R-41 and it's still only close to a straight.
