Thanked: 0Merkur 38c & Futur
I just had the opportunity to examine both the 38c and the Merkur Futur today. After removing the head from the 38c stem, I was unimpressed with the chrome finish. the top piece look great, with an high mirror finish, but the bottom half........well, enough said.
Now the Futur look great from all angles and felt balanced, but I have one problem with it......the adjustable portion will retain moisture and build up some unwanted film. Cleaning this area seems difficult at best.
Just my first impressions.....

Thanked: 1195As the saying goes, you never know until you try
I have the 38C and it's a great razor. Fit and finish isn't a problem with mine, or at least there's nothing noticeable enough to bother me. Performance is good, and it seems to like the majority of blades that I load it with.
I don't have the Futur, but many do and enjoy it. I'm sure others can comment, but I don't recall hearing any complaints about cleaning and water retention.

Thanked: 0I'm not discounting their shaving abilities since I've never tried using either one, my comments are only on the finished product and the maintenance of the Futur.

Thanked: 1263I have a Futur and it's fine..had it for approx. 7yrs or more and not a single problem with it, cleaning or otherwise. It's a great razor all the way around and doesn't seem to matter what blade you throw in it the performance is great. So if your only worry is the cleaning aspect, worry not my friend..just give it a good wipe when done and it'll be fine

Paul, Merkur's 38C is a popular name in double edge razors. The finish, not unlike the scores of other Merkur razors I have tried through the years, is far from impressive. If you want superb razors with impeccable finish, I suggest looking at Muhle or Edwin Jagger. As for the Merkur Futur, I have never owned one, although those who do compliment it mechanically and otherwise. I, however, have held and examined the Futur and find it too bulky for my taste.
