Thanked: 3
I haven't had any experience with Parker apart from it's what my barber uses to shave the back of my neck.
I use a Dovo shavette and would recommend that
The Dovo has 2 types of blade you can use. The standard double edge size or a long razor that they make. The long razor is about 80% the length of a straight razor while a DE is only about 1/2 the length of a straight.
With the Dovo you can choose which one you want. Be aware the long blades are more expensive than DE
The Parker only takes the DE blades.
One watch out for the Dovo is that the shavette is very light as it is aluminium
As to where to buy in the UK, sorry I'm from down under so I have no idea

Thanked: 270The Dovo took more practice for me to learn than a Parker because it was smaller and a lighter weight. If the Parker doesn't work for you I'd recommend a Feather. It's really worth the money if you believe the shavette might be your razor of choice. Not familiar with UK stores.

Thanked: 1I bought the dovo shavette from shaving.ie, and I quite like it. I use it if I want to shave but am not in the mood to strop and ready one of my other razors (something that only happens from time to time!).
Although there are three types of blade (double edged, long double edged and persona) that you can use, i tend to just use a normal DE out of convenience because I have them lieing around.
It just takes a bit more care to use, but gives a good shave!

I have a Parker and like it. Don't have a dovo. But what I would suggest is look around ebay and etsy for a weck sextoblade it use hair shaper blades and gives a very nice shave and is much closer in length and weight to a real straight then the Parker.

May I highly recommend you consider the Feather SS which is far superior to both suggested razors. I also have the DOVO Shavette and used to think it was great until I bought the Feather SS.

Thanked: 3I'm pretty sure Parkers are available on amazon UK. Failing that, there are UK based eBay sellers as I recently bought a Parker SRB and am enjoying it a lot recently.
Of course the Feathers and Kai's are much higher quality, with price tags to match! A cheaper option is the CJB (or Sam Seong) which take the same blades.
I haven't used a Dovo, but with practice and a light touch, you could be getting great shaves from a Parker in a couple of weeks.

Thanked: 2I have a Parker. It is light and shaves well. Its a good way to practice before buying a straight razor. (is this your plan?) If not... I would recommend not getting a shavette... but pay a little bit more to get a EDWIN JAGGER DE89. Buy a box of DERBY (100) on ebay.. and you are set.
Marvelous safety razor. Beautiful chrome and superb build.
