    Default Too stupid for words!

Having put "vintage razors" in the Ebay search and softed through the enormous amount of crap,I came up with this; which was described as damascas steel with a bone handle. I got carried away and won it, for £22.50 plus the postage. When it arrived, it is indeed damascas folded steel, with an attempt at half hollow grinding. It very agricultural and heavy. The blade is not flat. If I hone it for the next 50 years, it will never be in good enough shape to shave with. The edge is rippled. It will make a good pruning knife or wood working chisel ( May be not, I'm not sure it can be sharpened enough).

My brother after a good laugh, which I deserved, did give me a nice Dovo he picked up from Ebay and also a nice Osgar, both of which he has honed.
Please learn from my mistake, it could have been a costly one.

    Regards, very redfaced

This is from another Jul2013 member. Be thee not redfaced. For verily the learning curve doth deliver strenuous and evil lessons on the path to sartorial comprehension and glory. For, truth, thou art but a majority, but not shunned, member, of the group of "oops!". It is written in lather on the mirrors of our shavetoriums a reminder each day of our travails and traverses in this world as we strive toward the bliss of BBS. Be thee content to know that each new day brings further enlightenment in the matter of RAD opening our eyes to the need for seeking advise from out mentors of SRP as to the ways, whys and wherefores of shaving life.

You have joined the many, as I have, of being deceived by the sellers and makers of the unholy brands of what they call, super sharp, pre honed, truly vintage and "trust me, I've sold many of these beauties".

In all seriousness, you often can't get there directly. These little hiccups only educate us to be more aware of what crap is out there. I readily admit to a coffee cup of Pakistani and Chinese razors that sit there and grin at me in their dullness.

May your next purchase be your dream razor, honed by Lynn.

Hey, the glass may be half full. What're the scales like? Are they indeed bone? If so, I'm looking for some bone scales. PM if you don't want the scales...

I too bought a razor that was advertised as one of a kind, Damascus steel, but no mention it was made in Pakistan. Worked for a couple days trying to sharpen this beast and to this day still haven't got this junk razor sharp. Like the last post said I will use the olive wood scales on another restoration. I thought everyone was honest, that's how I was brought up, this is not the case though. I just read that they are making fake Dovo straight razors now and you better check out your purchase thoroughly before putting down your hard earned bucks.

Really!? Fake Dovo's? Man, where did you hear that?

Not saying it's untrue, just marveling.

I read it on a forum, a guy in los angles wanted some info on a dovo razor whether or not to buy it, it was from a well known knife shop. He posted a picture of it and they had put dovo scales with a cheap arrow blade, and put a sticker on it that said (shave redy) they misspelled shave ready on the sticker, had it on sale for 60 bucks. If I can find the post again I will post it on here.
