    Default Changing scales

    Hi guys

Quick question , I have Feather SS artist Club and I fancy changing the scales from the plastic one... is it as straight forward as taking out the pin and using any scales I fancy and popping the pin back in ?

The short answer is no. How about posting some pictures so we can get an idea. also to be considered is the type of scales you will be using to replace the originals.

Been done before...sometimes very well! Pull pin and draw the outline you want on paper around the blade. Rubber cement it to the scales materials. Sandwich two thin slabs. then cut out and finish as you will Add wedge or spacer to suit!

PS I didn't like the original scales my self. Think about it for a while! Then do some sketches before undertaing the job.

    Just found this!
    custom scales
The work is the same as you will have.

Yes there is going back...but... the trick is to remove the pin without hurting the scales. Find a Mentor / or other straight shaver in your area to talk with, they may be able to help you "hands on."
If not, here is good info for any rescale project:
    Restoring Straight razors
And you can look into the workshop and custom builts area of SRP and see what others have done and what worked well and what looks like crap!

    Have fun!
ps, Rob's Bits on the 'Bay has horn and sundry. Washers are sometimes a problem over there but can be had.

Undream did a Feather Artist Club RG, different model but same type of pin.

He mentioned filling in the oversized pivot hole.

Here's a picture of a custom set I made. If you try this with pre-made scales you will need to make a wider wedge in order that the blade holder sits correctly when closed.
