Haven't trimmed a beard but on deployment and field exercises I grow a mustache that must be trimmed to exact specs. You hve to go slow. After it grows in a bit it gets easier as the longer hair will stop the blade when you hit it using light pressure. Again gow slow and you should be good to go. My travel razor is a Parker.
