    Default Parker srw newb

been shaving DE for a couple years now and thought it couldn't get any better than that, and recently a coworker gave me a Parker srw to try out and after a bit of a learning curve, I'm starting to get the hang if it. it's a great close shave with feather blades and so far only had a couple bloodlettings, lol. on the first shave I nicknamed the razor bloodsport. I'm currently in Afghanistan so I attribute the poor water quality to some of my mishaps because it's difficult to get a good lather. I have but one question and it's about blades. is find the feathers to be almost too sharp, if there is such a thing. would something like a derby extra be more suitable or is it too close to call? I have great results with feathers in my DE but maybe they are overkill in a shavette. thanks guys, Blacksheep out

DE Blades are such a YMMV thing that it pays to try as many as you can.
PM me your mailing address and I will PIF you an assortment to get you started.

Smooth Shaving and thank you for your service.

I have good results with Astra blades (both sp and ss ) but my favorite is Bluebird.

I appreciate the offer, but I can't get any mail right now but will be home soon where I have a small stash of derbys. the first shave with feathers is tricky but after that no problem. time and patience will pay off and sharpness shouldn't be an issue. again I really appreciate the offer, it really seems like I hit the jackpot on finding a straight razor forum

No worries and the offer stands, let me know.

I like the Feathers in a DE, when I was using a Shavette I liked the Astra Blue. That was before I had tried the Persona Lab and Med Prep.
And since it is such a YMMV thing it is best to just try a few. I had a Barber that I gave my box of Shark 1/2 blades and he raved about them, for the next guy they might be like a camp saw...

All the best and Smooth Shaving...

I find the Gillette Blues to be very sharp like the Feather, but much smoother worth a try.

Learned to use a parker in A-stan my self. Your right the water quality there sucks for a good lather once you get back to the states it will get better. I really like the shark blades but as you will find reading here blades are a very personal choice. I highly recomend taking up MJC's offer when you get back.

I'm starting to get a feel for the water, it causes the lather to dry very fast so I keep the brush a bit more wet and re lather as needed to stay slick
