    Default Looking to Buy

So I'm looking to buy a shavette for two reasons. One so I have something to shave with whenever I have to send off my straight to be honed and two I'll be able to travel with it. Now from a little research I can see that you have your normal shavettes that just use disposable blades but I'm also seeing the Feather System. I saw what looked like the cheapest one which was priced around $95 and also seems like it offers a much better and closer shave. I've found a website which I think is the main site for buying this system, but would like any advice or recommendations. Thanks.

I have non-folding versions of both the CJB and the Sam Seong at a much lower cost than Feather.
Both work very well with a Feather blade. I have not tried other brands.
They are longer blade versions of the shavette.
Shorter versions men that you can use half a DE blade.

Can't go wrong with a feather. I own an regularly use both the folding an fixed versions of the SS. I have used the other models including RG cjb Kai. For me the SS is the most comfortable.

My understanding also is that these are double edged blades as well just like my straight or am I wrong in that assumption?

The term double edge is normally applied to safety razor blades as they are sharpened on both sides. Straights are single edge. Feather style blades are also single edge. But to clear the confusion. Yes you can shave with either side of the blade. Right hand or left. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah it does. I get it now. My only concern is that even with a Feather, if I only travel with a carry on I can take it, but obviously not the blades and wouldn't be able to buy them at my location. Also my other concern is even with a simple DOVO shavette, it looks like it uses longer blades than your average disposable one that you might find at say Walgreens.

EDIT: IE I think these would work http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/sch...163368-product but not sure of their quality. Unless say it does use the standard DE razor blades.

I read once that someone tried to carry a shavette onto a plane and they were a bit suspicious about it, even though the blade had been removed. They let him take it, but advised against it in future.

As for blades, feathers only use their special type of blade. The Dovo one can accept multiple types, some are just under 2", while others are almost 2.5"

As long as there is no edge I don't see the issue. I'll have to look into it.

And yeah it looks as if the DOVO comes with the red one, but not sure if that requires special blades or the ones I could go to the store and buy or if I'd have to buy a different insert to hold them. Bleh. Becoming tedious.

Ok so the red insert uses your normal ones, but some places sell the DOVO with the other inserts which can be used with the DOVO longer blades to cover more area. Makes sense for home use and then use the red one when traveling and just go to Walgreens. So on the fence right now with what to get. AAAHH.

Either insert can fit either blade, I've never understood why most sites say that red is for normal and black is for long.

The longer DOVO blade is put into both of those shavettes, and a standard DE is on the bottom for comparison.
