Default My first shaves with the Feather ac ss from a new straight shaver

having used and invested in a few brands of safety (replaceable cartridge) razors and elecric shavers over many years and having terrible problems with shaving related rashes, spots etc (I'm 49) I thought now is the time to grow a beard. This was to give my skin a chance to recover, well that was fine till after a few weeks growth it became unbareable, itchy, spots and hating the look. I then went bact to shaving, then growing a beard anon.i thought right this time I'll pay for a proper hot shave with a straight razor.i was crapping myself as I was toweled, oiled, lathered and then saw the barbers weapon of choice.clutching the arms of the chair he started.first of all I thought here comes the blood.however no blood, in fact very relaxing and the result was fantastic. The next day I went to the mirror expecting to see a face looking like I had smallpox and to my relief not a spot, rash or blemish,I was hooked.after a few more of these shaves I thought ,right time to give it a go. On to the Internet I went and got a shavette kit, very basic but after a few weeks got a pretty good shave with just the odd nick razor rash etc but now the way to go was invest in something of a better quality.again onto the Internet and look up products. Next step up was a Dovo shavette but I had the bug and looked for the jump up to the higher quality razor. I settled for the Feather artist club ss folding. I left my whiskers to go whilst waiting fo the purchase to arrive. And here it is,beautiful to look at,the quality looked amazing. I was ready, shave oil (Taylor of Bond Street) sandal wood shaving soap (Geo F Trumper) sandal wood a alum block and after shave balm also Taylor of Bond Street. I inserted the feather pro-guard blade and so I began. First the feel of the razor was sublime compared with the learner cheap shavette I had before. The whiskers just fell before the blade, the shaving angles just fell into place and I had the first complete and fulfilling shave ever. Results with two passes left my face as smooth as a baby's butt. No nicks no burn just a happy face. Used it twice now and will never look back. Will one day invest in the equipment to use a traditional straight but for now I've got a new friend. Would advise anybody to do the same as me. Start cheap,if that works jump up to the better spec and enjoy your face.

The Feather is an awesome system. I have one that I use occasionally and love it.

I am still kinda new around here but let me be the first to welcome you. I am interested to find out what was the brand of other shavette you own? I have a Parker myself and for the most part am enjoying it. Like you I want to get a proper straight. I have also heard rave reviews of the Feather razor. Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences with the Feather.

The shavette was basic from the shaving shack. The derby blades supplies were quite harsh so I tried a couple more given to me by a friend who uses a double edge safety razor which improved the experience by far.

Have made my way through the feather system. Love the SS folding an SS fixed. They are my two go to razors a lot of times. I mainly use my real vintage straights as a luxury weekend shave. Glad your liking the feather. After you are comfortable with the system try the pro blades. They give a bit better shave I think.

I bought the Feather SS with a 20 pack of professional and a 20 pack of Artist blades. Was warned away from the artists. But the Pros are awesome. I can't believe how long they last. I can easily get 10 shaves/blade, and they get "good" after about 4-5.
