Default My first shaves with the Feather ac ss from a new straight shaver

having used and invested in a few brands of safety (replaceable cartridge) razors and elecric shavers over many years and having terrible problems with shaving related rashes, spots etc (I'm 49) I thought now is the time to grow a beard. This was to give my skin a chance to recover, well that was fine till after a few weeks growth it became unbareable, itchy, spots and hating the look. I then went bact to shaving, then growing a beard anon.i thought right this time I'll pay for a proper hot shave with a straight razor.i was crapping myself as I was toweled, oiled, lathered and then saw the barbers weapon of choice.clutching the arms of the chair he started.first of all I thought here comes the blood.however no blood, in fact very relaxing and the result was fantastic. The next day I went to the mirror expecting to see a face looking like I had smallpox and to my relief not a spot, rash or blemish,I was hooked.after a few more of these shaves I thought ,right time to give it a go. On to the Internet I went and got a shavette kit, very basic but after a few weeks got a pretty good shave with just the odd nick razor rash etc but now the way to go was invest in something of a better quality.again onto the Internet and look up products. Next step up was a Dovo shavette but I had the bug and looked for the jump up to the higher quality razor. I settled for the Feather artist club ss folding. I left my whiskers to go whilst waiting fo the purchase to arrive. And here it is,beautiful to look at,the quality looked amazing. I was ready, shave oil (Taylor of Bond Street) sandal wood shaving soap (Geo F Trumper) sandal wood a alum block and after shave balm also Taylor of Bond Street. I inserted the feather pro-guard blade and so I began. First the feel of the razor was sublime compared with the learner cheap shavette I had before. The whiskers just fell before the blade, the shaving angles just fell into place and I had the first complete and fulfilling shave ever. Results with two passes left my face as smooth as a baby's butt. No nicks no burn just a happy face. Used it twice now and will never look back. Will one day invest in the equipment to use a traditional straight but for now I've got a new friend. Would advise anybody to do the same as me. Start cheap,if that works jump up to the better spec and enjoy your face.
