When i used shavette the prep is the same as a straight exept the angle, me my angle is about 35 to 40 degre, wetter lather, as a newbie use short slow strokes and the most important strech your skin. When i shave whit a shavette i get great results following those steps. Keep on going you will get it. Gino

I have used all the feather models and now use a Kai Captain. First, try using a good pre-shave oil or cream. I use a glycerin soap to wash my face, Crown pre-shave gel and then a good cream. I found the creams work better with a shavette then soaps. Next, a shavette has, by nature, a steeper angle then your DE or a straight. Lay the razor flat on your face and slowly angle it up until you feel the blade against your face. That is the angle to use. Now slowly make a pass about 2-3 inches. Practice on your cheeks to start until you are comfortable that you have the right angle and pressure. I have watched GeoFatBoy's videos and Lynn Abrams and they will show you the right way to use the shavette. I suggest watching before doing. If you are like me you are doing before watching.

I find with my Feather that I need a much steeper angle (closer to flat) than with my proper straights. Couple that with needing to apply little to no pressure as the weight of the razor should do the work for you cos the blades are so damn sharp (the Feathers are anyway, I've not tried the Kai blades so I can't really comment on them) and you should be onto a winner. As other users have said though, prep is everything so don't rush through it.
