well I didnt feel like stropping tonight
Like it said I didnt feel like stropping tonight so i busted out the shavette tonight after shaving with a straight for a couple of months. right away I knew something was wrong new blade, tried no pressure but i couldent feel the edge anymore, It was just too light. so i shave and nicked myself tore up my neck. I guess i need a heavier shavette now that i use a straight

Thanked: 171I agree that the typical shavette feels light, if not flimsy, when compared to a typical straight razor.
I can get decent shaves with them, but as a predominant straight shaver I prefer something more substantial.
The disposable straight razor that comes closest to a straight razor in heft and balance is IMO the Feather AC DX.
I find them very convenient, especially when travelling, and use it regularly.

Thanked: 8I switch back and forth every so often just to keep in practice with the shavette. It's far less forgiving than my traditional straights and really needs that light touch.
The plus side is after using the shavette that I can manhandle the traditional straight around my face without any fears.

Thanked: 45I hit the shavette last night as well....I am trying some new soaps and since I travel with my shavette, I wanted to try that configuration (travel brush, new soap, no mug. etc) with my shavette (Dovo) to see how the new stuff performed. I ended up with a good shave, but I also agree that one just doesn't get the same feedback at all. While the shave may have been good, I did have to pay extra attention to pressure for sure, as well as angle. I honestly just did not find it to be as enjoyable as my straights...it seemed like a much more utilitarian approach to shaving like a cartridge to me.

I used my shavette for now and i get good shaves whit it. The secret i found for great results is light touch and the angle.

I am in the minority. I actually reach for my shavettes, especially the Feather ACs, as much or more so than my straights. Definitely use a lighter touch with the shavettes.
