Thanked: 0Any beefy shavettes out there?
I recently started shaving with a Dreadnaught, which I know is just a branded generic that a couple of different companies use. I'm still a newbie to using straights/shavettes, but one thing I've found myself wanting is a beefier razor, specifically a thicker and heavier tang.
Does anyone know of any big/beefy shavettes out there? Since I don't have a lot of experience I'm not sure what is out there, so I may be asking for something that doesn't exist. However, if there's any place I could get some information this would be it!

One could look into the feather artist club line. Kai makes a couple as well.

Thanked: 96I have or own them all. I like the Kai Captain the best. It is not or will it be a straight razor. I feel more comfortable and have more control with the straight in my hand then a shavette. That is why I only use my Kai once in awhile. Try picking up a used straight to see it you like it. Just makes some very affordable razors if you decide to go with Straights.

Thanked: 60There are bigger ones that hold a whole DE blade. 2 are from Italy, one is called the "universal" There is also a custom made by "Don Jae". Very heavy but a little clunky to load. There may be more that I am unaware of.

Thanked: 1I get great shaves with the Feather Artist Club razors. Not a fan of shavettes that use 1/2 DE blades. Just my opinion though.

Check out CJB and Sam Seong for inexpensive and sturdy razors that use the longer Kai and Feather blades. Shaved with the Sam Seong this AM and a one pass will get me through the day.
Do a Yahoo or Google search for "Sam Seong razor" The CJB will show up there also.
Both good value, in my opinion, after a year's use. And about 1/3rd the cost of a Feather.

Thanked: 0The new DE Equinox is somewhat beefier than a normal single edge shavette.

I do have that shavette and yes it's heavier but you have to be careful whit it, it's very agresive cause of the blade exposure. It's a good shavette but use a mild DE blade whit it to my opinion. My best bet for me are Astra's and Shark's, Feather's take my skin off lol.

Wasn't that log ago I bought a DE shavette. My thought was it would help develop skills needed for when I transitioned to Straights. I learned to lather, but mostly I learned to use a styptic to staunch the blood. Blade exposure refers to the very thin little bit that sticks out and tries to eat your face. If you are considering straights, you will find that "big/beefy" easily. And if you're like me, never look back to the shavettes.
Good luck & good shaves. To deobfuscate is to convert something that is difficult to un͝d̡͝e҉͞r̴͝st̨̕a͘͢n̢̛d̕̕ ̧͝
