Thanked: 0Using Feather Artist Cub Much Improved
In the last few years on and off I have tried to get on with a Feather Artist Club Folding RG. Each time I give up frustrated after about a week. Fed up with nicks, irritation and not very close shaves. Disappointed I revert back to a cartridge system.
I don't really like the cartridge systems. Shaving is just a chore with them and I gradually start shaving less and less frequently.
I was thinking of getting rid of the Artist Cub but I thought I would give it a last try. The first few days were as bad as I expected. In desperation I tried a couple of drops of a cheap high street shave oil (less bulky than cream for backpacking) under my usual shaving cream. The experience could not have been more different. I had no nicks or irritation. The shave was as close as a cartridge system. I was so pleased but I thought it might be a fluke.
Well a week later and I have been using shaving oil, shaving cream and the Artist Club every day. It really is a pleasure and I am getting more confident every day. I am looking forward to shaving and could not be happier.
I would not have thought a few drops of oil could make all the difference.
Best wishes, Stephen.

its good its working for you, but its a crutch, your technique is off if your not getting better than cartridge shaves with a Feather, maybe use the Pro Guard blades for a while and start watching the angle your using, Feathers can be unforgiving because of the sharpness, but after a couple of shaves they usually settle down. some even cork the blade first. I have never had this problem with them I like them fresh.
but if the oil helps you keep at it, till you get the confidence and experience to wield the razor correctly. good luck Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Welcome to SRP. I've never used a pre shave oil, but I've used a whole bunch of different soaps and creams. No doubt in my mind that soaps and creams that provide cushion and glide will do the same thing for you. Check out this thread here for three tiers of products highly rated by an expert in the field.
