Thread: TEDALUS ESSENCE SHAVETTE

Just received my Tedalus Essence Shavette and its a real beauty. Excellent design, quality and engineering. The razor fits perfectly in your hand. The razor takes DE or SE blades that are held in place with magnets. The razor is narrower than my Feather shavettes and it is as close to a straight razor your going to get with a shavette. It lays flat on your face for an irritation free, smooth shave. This is the Ferrari of shavettes. A real work of art.

Nice shavette. Never heard of the brand so I checked out the website. They ain't cheap are they. Noticed you can't close the blade fully as the scales are a solid piece and you would dull the de blade.

When I was in the army in 68, I got a really bad infection on my face. A special forces medic at FT. Bragg gave me some cream and asked it I remove my razor blade after each shave and clean the razor and blade. I said no. He said there is a lot of bacteria that forms on the blade and razor that can give you a serious infection. After that, I have alway broken down my razor to clean the blade and razor.

Most straight razor users do that as a matter of course and to dry and clean the blade prior to storing it.

I do the same with my DE razors as well. Give them a good rinse and then dry the head and stem and blade with a dry towel.

An ounce of prevention, etc.

Obviously I clean and dry my straights, mainly to stop'em getting rusty and although I rinse and dry my safety razors I don't take the blades out to clean them too. I bin them after a few uses so it don't feel it's a big deal.

It is a good-looking Shavette. Looks like it uses the half blades. Still, it's got looks. As far as cleaning DE razors, I loosen the handle and rinse. I remove the blade only when it needs to be replaced. At that time I use a brush and clean everything well. Never had an issue.

Interesting find, but I wonder whether the magnets could be the weak point.
The magnets appear small, most likely to keep the blade assembly small, but that would also mean a weak magnetic force.

If you don’t mind, let us know how this concepts works out in the long run.

Based on comments made about the magnets, without going into scientific jargon, the magnets are not your run of the mill magnets, they are extra strong, long lasting magnets. One of the comments was that the magnets would last a life time. I can tell you, they not only hold the blade secure, but really hold the spine together. There is no play what so ever in the blade or the part of the spine that attaches to the body. It is much more stable than my Feathers that work on a spring.
