Non standard razors and razor grip
This is a follow up to a thread below talking about razor grip and thumb placement.
I brought up the issue that there are some razors that seem to have non standard dimensions. I've never measured all my razors to determine the length of the tail or the tang but it seems though there are variations they are all very close no matter the width of the razor. However there seems to be some razors that are way off. My example was my Rogers 5/8s in which the tail is at least 2x the usual length and the tang is a good 1/3 shorter than usual. When I shave with this razor I need to place 2 fingers in the tail and one on the top of the blade and one finger less on the tang. This throws off the feel of the razor and I find it very uncomfortable and seems to give me a feeling of less control of the razor. It is not one of the razors I look forward to using in my rotation although it is an outstanding shaver.
Has anyone else run into this kind of situation and how do you handle it or how difficult do you find adapting to a new hold on the razor? No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
