    Default My First Shave!

Well, I took the plunge this morning, a little background: I've been making knives for a few years and always loved the look of straight razors. Had someone interested in one and I told them they would have to wait awhile before I figured out how to make them right. So I began and I stumbled upon this lovely place. I don't remember the last time I've been more enamored by something (maybe the first time I made a knife... maybe). Thanks to the countless articles, library and the incredible help of guys here, I went from never even holding a straight, to making my own, honing it, and this morning using it!

It was incredible! Although I'm sure I could have gotten a tad bit of a smoother shave, I was thoroughly impressed/pleased. I'm sure my, stropping/shaving and the like, skills will improve and it will only get better from here. But I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has contributed to the 1k shaving thread, 4k/8k JaNorton thread and everything thing else I've read (hours upon hours as I'm sure you can imagine), and the advice, tips, and everything else.

This place and you guys are incredible, thanks for addiction!

Very nice looking blade design! That's very impressive that you wanted to shave with a straight razor, so you made you own razor and honed it with no practice!

Oh, I had plenty of practice... I won't mention how many hours it took me to get it shave ready ... but I'm learning a lot and it's all thanks to this place

I want to know why there's not a "Like Entire Thread" button?

    You Win!!!

Congrats, beautiful razor, and welcome to the addiction. Must be an awesome sense of accomplishment to shave with a razor you made. I've skinned a couple of deer with a knife I made. Give me a great feeling.

Thanks guys, it was super gratifying, prior to the shave I was more nervous that the blade wasn't up to snuff than I was for my first straight shave.
