Is it true?
I have been told you are more likely to cut yourself with a full hollow ground than any other type of straight.

I find any grind is fine as long as I remember "up and down" not "side to side"

I am more apt to get a nick from a DE than a straight IME. It is kind of like a motorcycle. The most dangerous times are when you are brand new and first learning, and when you have developed enough expertise to lose your respect for it and start getting reckless. Always pay strict attention and you shouldn't get any nicks or cuts. I find I only get them when I let my focus drift from the project at hand. Also, check out this thread ;

Har har, what a great post.
So I'm finishing up shaving with my feather DE and I have it lying on end to dry loosened up while I clean my face and THE DOG comes barging into the room doing her usual routine making a grab for anything in reach. The brush, towel, soap whatever she can get and as I wheel around to grab her and kick her out and just happen to notice in the razor there is a rather large chunk of skin wedged under the blade. So I'm thinkin what the hell is that as THE DOG is gleefully lapping up this puddle of blood on the floor. I still don't know how I did it and I didn't feel a thing. It's just that I'm missing a chunk of skin on my right number 3 finger just below the cuticle. So now I'm all taped up and I can't even use my straight for a while anyway and I don't even know how it happened. But THE DOG, I'll bet she knows. But she ain't talking.
The moral of the story is you cut yourself way more dealing with the blade when you are NOT shaving.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 57For me this is true. The full hollows always draw blood but the 1/2 and 1/4 hollows just seem to work for me; i.e., no blood.

Thanked: 4942Sorry Guys, but the grind of the blades has nothing to do with the cuts........
Cuts are caused by you, not the razor.
Have fun

Maybe 1/4 and 1/2 hollow are easier to use so less chance of cuts. I have to say though, as others have, it is all about the user.

Thanked: 177The only difference between grinds is the stiffness. If you are flexing an extra hollow your using too much pressure.
