First Cold Shave - Converted!

Yea I got a great shave once with only cold water by candle light but that was cause the power was out from
the major hurricane that hit the new York area.
The water heater needs power to be able to heat the water.
But the warm soap on the face with a nice soft brush fells so good that I don't think I want to pass that up.

I've only used just barely warm water to where it's not a shock of cold first thing in the morning. I too find that with luke warm water I get less razor burn.

I started cold-water shaving a couple of weeks ago when we had a hot & humid patch here in Ottawa. It worked great and I have kept it going ever since. That having been said, I'll probably be back in the hot water/warm lather camp when autumn/winter roll around, but for now I'm finding the cold water refreshing.

I keep wanting to give it a try,Just seems so unatural:(

Hey - as has been mentioned, the cold stiffens the beard by shrinking the blood vessels in the face, making the hair stand up more. I rinsed with cold water, then used the brush to really get the face wet (wet shave right?), then tally-ho!

If you do want to try it out, my advice would be to try it on a stinkin' hot day. Worked for me.

Several months ago, I began experimenting with cold water shaves and I've not used hot water to shave in at least a good couple months. I use cold tap water usually (really kind of lukewarm here in Florida) but occasionally on the weekends, I'll gear up an iced water shave. They're great but logistically a little demanding for routine, workday shaves. PS: It's nothing like the old cold water and canteen cup shaves in the field (for any other Old GIs who are a bit put off by that lingering memory)

Tomorrow,maybe:) how will doing this effect the temper of my razor? will I need to use tape after doing so for my touchups?
What effect will the cold water have on my brushes? and my soaps? will stropping post shave be the same?

My twist is Cold water shave, hot water final rinse (get the lather out of my ears) and a ice water towel for the big finish...
You will be ready to do what needs to be done...whatever that is...

I've been a cold water guy for a few months now, but I'm not sure if it really counts if you live in Hawaii. Great results though. We'll see what I do when I move back to the Mainland.
