You've got another on the cold side. From now on, looks like its cold shaving for me. I tried it this morning and had a better shave then I normally do with hot water. It also cut my shave time down by about 15 min.
Well... I think I'll save the pampering hot shaves for Saturday mornings. ;)
I've read about cold shaving in the past, but I didn't think it would help with my tough beard. After reading all of the success stories here I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I tried.
Third cold shave today...with a twist!
Was out the other day, and saw one of those Parker SR-1 shavette's, was under $20, read about them here, thought, hey, can't go wrong for the cash, and I've read many use them for travel.
Well, cold shave was great, and yes, what everybody writes on the forum regarding shavette's is true. They are very, very sharp. Mine came with 5 Shark blades and 3 Lord blades, put a Shark blade in and off I went.
Did it give a close shave?
Yes!
And for the first time, I actually got a few nicks resulting in a tad of bleeding, which later required a touch of the styptic pen after the alum block.
Definitely BBS shave, but it in all aspects was completely different from a real SR. The touch of the blade (sorry, disposable razor blade), the weight, the feedback, and the overall quality of the shave didn't even come close to a real SR.
Only analogy that comes to mind would be the difference between driving stick versus an automatic transmission. Yes, they both go, but the experience, control, feedback, ability to completely control the experience was just not there with the Parker Shavette.
When I started my first pass with the shavette, I was shocked how sharp it was, literally fell down my face with little or no effort stripping my face like clear-cutting a forest, no eloquence, little control, just sheer destruction.
After 1/2 hour since my shave, for the first time, I'm starting to experience mild stinging around my neck line and certain parts of my face.
On the whole, it works, it wasn't fun, it was purely a functional, clinical experience, and when you're used to a great steak and dining experience, all I got was stuck in the drive through waiting for a day old Big Mac!

Tried cold water today. It was 105 degrees here in Texas today so it was nice. Very nice shave also. I'll stick with it for a while.
i started cold water shaving about a year ago. i feel i get a better shave, and will not be going back to hot water.
I also find that nicks bleed less, as the blood isn't right at the surface I presume.
The colder water shrinks the capillaries, so if you do nick yourself, if it's small enough you'll not know about it until you apply some aftershave, if it is a bit of a bleeder, the splash of cold water to rinse off helps shut it down. If you really screw up you'll need the styptic...Or possibly a paramedic...Depending on the level of stupidity involved I suppose :).
I cold water shave all the time...But I'm also lazy, so that might have something to do with it. ;)

Thanks Phrank but I have to give all credit to LuckyCynic who first posted the booklet from where I got the info. Glad that so many shavers have discovered the pleasure of that refreshing cold splash of water and the subsequent great shaves. OTOH, like the old advertisement for Camel Filters .......
