Shave every day?
I am new to straight razor shaving. Is it best to shave every other day when starting out. My face doesn't bother me shaving every day. I think I get a better shave with a little more growth. I shaved every day when I was DE shaving.

It is really up to you. If your skin can take it you can shave everyday. I personally have to tell that everyday give me small skin irritation when using heavier blades but it is not so bad. You need to know that every shave does remove a lot of dead skin surface when you shave every 2-3 days, however everyday shave does remove little bit of new skin too.

Thanked: 270I shave every day with a straight. It was a little hard on my face when I was new at it, but now it feels great.
My face felt like raw hamburger meat most of the time with the cartridges and other multiblade razors. Sure glad I found an alternative to those.

if you do get a cut and shave again the next day the wound can open again real easy in my experience but if you feel your face is fine, shave away

Thanked: 57I shave every day with a straight. Much less irritation than a DE or multi-blade for me. I look forward to it, it's fun.

Thanked: 247I shave every day except for the dog days of summer. My beard actually slows growth such that daily is unnecessary.
As others have said, let your face answer.
If you shave irritated skin, it will become a lot more irritated

I really enjoy varying the number of days between shaves. For me it is particularly fun to go right up to the unsafe for work level of beard growth then use a heavy blade for that rebirth/fountain of youth shave.

Thanked: 1195+1. You'll find out very quickly if your skin is up to the task. Keep in mind that not every skin type is suited for daily shaving, no matter what anyone tells you. If you get any pain or discomfort when shaving two days in a row, STOP. It's a myth that your skin will simply become tougher with regular shaving.
BTW, I'm a shave every-other-day guy

I used to shave every day but now skip days here and there. Sometimes I'll shave every day because I want to. I never skip more than one day if I am not sick with the flu or something. I seem to have sensitive skin and I've found that skipping a day feels good. For some of us I imagine they don't have the luxury of skipping even one day.
