HD FBOY, I kind of like getting the most out of a product before upgrading to a better or more expensive one --just the way I am. But some people consider the looks of a brush as well as how it works --the burma isn't that attractive of a brush ---but that's not something I notice anyway. When it fails me I'll upgrade --and if I do I'm sure I'll be more prepared to get the most out of a badger. Later,
Justin

Going to a double-edge razor is a great stepping stone to a straight razor, in my opinion. I tried to go from a M3 to a straight last summer, but I had a miserable time of it. So I pulled back and spent about six weeks getting good with a DE. That let me figure out how to prep my beard well and taught me the angles of my face. It was easier to learn so I got some quick gratification.
I took another whack at the straight razor in the fall, and I have barely used my DE since. But I still use it occasionally when I'm running late or traveling.
As for the boar vs. badger question, I started with the Burma Shave boar brush and liked it just fine. Then I got a Vulfix best badger, and it's great. The boar brush has been in a drawer since September. I keep meaning to give it another try, but I just really like the badger... It's softer but still scrubby, and it holds plenty of water. Good times.

Thanked: 0I reqally appreciate all the comments. I ordered 100 Derby blades off of e-bay last night for $14 including shipping. This will get me started. I really like the way this has turned into a getting started thread. I continue to look for a SR to start with.
This morning I attempted to follow a wet shave approach, showering before shaving, working in the cream, WTG, more cream, XTG, moer cream, AGT, all with the Fusion. Well I got a very close shave but my face is suffering for it. Thank goodness I had some after shave treatment or I would still be in pain.
Thanks again!!Last edited by HD FBOY; 02-05-2007 at 01:57 PM.

Hey man,
Everyone else has said everything that I can think of to say. I started with a shavette that I bought as a gift for a friend, but stayed in my hands. Then I found this site and decided to jump into it. Then I happened upon a DE. Both gave a much more comfortable shave than my mach 3 (which I threw away...like I said, I jumped in), and I still think that there is room for improvement. I hope that your journey into wetshaving is a long and pleasent one.
