I use the Last Pass Oil recipe from Leisureguy (Michael Ham). But in an atomizer spray bottle (should call it Shaving PAM). Squeeze all the rich leftover lather from the center of the brush into my left hand, spray the oil on the face using my right hand, and rub on lather looking for bad spots. Right hand stays dry. I've tried oil alone, and lather alone, but the combo works very nicely.

Lynn I noticed you have issues with oil and slippery hands! I seem to not get that. After I oil up before a shave I normally have a wet washcloth in the sink anyway, so I wet it again and rub off my hands to lose the oil. Seems to do the trick for me. After I'm done and looking for strays, once I find one, I'll splash a little hot water on it and the oil seems to come back just enough for a good swipe to lose the strays. If that's not enough I'll always have a bit of suds left in the brush and just spin that into the strays.

Thanked: 77I had trouble here for a long time.
I keep it light and use short light buffing strokes.
Experiment a bit to find best directions: e.g. From nose to ear vs ear to nose, Going south-east/west vs just going south.
Try not to fuss too much - that's when I"ve overdone it (and probably put too much pressure) and got irritation.
Currently I'm doing this:
'Pass one'
1.'WTG' - North to South
2. Some light buffing on corner - Downwards, but heading towards ear.
3.Light buffing - Nose to ear direction, then slightly up
'Pass two'
4.Light buffing - Ear to nose direction, then slightly up
Sounds like a lot when I type it out, but don't spend too long fussing.
Hope this makes sense!
All the best,
Michael

I tend to go over my whole face with my fingers and then put some lather on the spots when I need a touch-up works great for me

I've kept a beard almost constantly for about 3 years now. I've only been wet-shaving for about 1.
I use straights for cheeks, neck and trimming on the chin.
With that said, for those that keep goatees or sideburns I highly recommend that you go ahead and lather up as much facial hair as you want.
1. Your soap/lather smells good. Doesn't it?
2. Building lather on your face is real easy when done this way.
3. You (or I at least) never have to go back for touchups! You'd be suprised how much lather you can "rake" out of your hair if you've given it a healthy dose in your initial brush-up.
4. Your "raking" and "searching" for areas that need touched up can be done at the same time

Thanked: 5Hi,
First post. I've been reading this thread and wondering if anyone else uses the same custom lather receptacles as I do for touch-up. They are commonly known as my ears. I can't seem to keep the lather out of them when I lather up, so I'll put a bit of water on the patch to be shaved with my fingers, then fish a bit of lather out of my ears.
What goes on in a guy's bathroom is just between him and his maker, isn't it?
Looking forward to getting to know you all better.
Cheers,
Ian
