Default 1st razor in hand!! Couple "swipes"

I received my International Co. Greyhound and the thing is so much more beautiful in person. CrazyCloud honed and sharpened it.

While I don't have a brush yet, I decided to wet my right side jaw with cold water and give a couple little passes. Yesterday, I had employed better face prep. In shower, properly cleaned face, applied shave oil (menthol, clove, vit e and ?), messaged it in, performed a WTG pass with cartridge, rinsed, applied canned goo, massaged in, preformed XTG and ATG passes, rinsed, patted dry and applied my crummy Nivea AS. Maybe, the best shave I've had from a two blade cartridge. I contribute it all to taking care with more pre-shave prep.

    To the straight:

That sound! It really impressed me of the sharpness of the instrument I had in hand. I didn't have that much growth today. While I was able to take four small WTG "swipes" down my right jaw with success, I'm probably going to back down and wait until the silvertip and soap arrive and proceed with a proper face prep... unless the curiosity grips me this evening.

As instructed by CrazyCloud, I will not bother stropping the razor until I've had a few shaves with it(strop hasn't arrived either).

I'm so glad I listened to advise and shopped SRP's Classifieds. Didn't want to get called an askhole

I'm hoping this seller/honer really didn't recommend your shaving several times without stropping. Hopefully you mis-understood. When a razor has been honed, a honer typically requests the owner to not strop before the first shave, but after the shave & before.

I know we discuss shaving with water but as a rookie you need all the help you can get so I don't know I would use water only in that case.

Exactly why I only took a couple of swipes and thought better of it. Respect the razor!

Glad you are liking it, she really is a pretty one and a silky shaver. Good luck with your first shaves, take your time. I know there are a lot of different things to consider when you are starting out and it can feel intimidating. If it is stressfull just put it down for a little while. Feel free to PM or e-mail me with any questions.

Don't forget to get a styptic pencil. Mine works if I set it on the counter. I don't even cut myself then. If I leave it in the drawer I have to dig for it. They do help heal and stop some of the blood letting.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

LOL. Needed that laugh. Actually, I had the styptic pencil 3 days before the razor came. Now waiting on the strop.

Meanwhileo, I decided, out of boredom while watching tv, to take a few dry swipes to my left side. I scared the was out of my ear but was able to make a few passes without pain or injury.

Thanks for the razor and help all

Glad you are having fun, patience is hard but worth the wait .
The Nivea balm is ok as far as I am concerned, though I prefer the vit e cream that I use most of the time.

You did exactly the correct thing by not attempting to shave your entire face. Get a feel for the process on the easy parts of your face (cheeks, flat parts of the neck), and gradually work your way up to the entire face. You'll likely find that the center portion of your face and neck are the hardest. For me the apex of the chin and the underside were the last parts to get dialed in, and I've still got room for improvement. Enjoy the ride.
