Thread: How dangerous are nicks in the blade?

I have a razor that is freshly honed but has a tiny nick on its edge. I mean very tiny. Will it be dangerous to shave with?

Dude, not sure who ya are. Fellow Berks County cat I see. The razor had some pitting. It took a great edge but has a micro chip.

Continuing the current vernacular, Dude...how did it get a micro chip? Plus I would not shave with if it has a chip.

A chip at 100x is very minor, a few passes on crox will smooth it out enough that more honing can wait.

A chip with mark 1 eye ball can hurt a lot.

I am assuming you honed it yourself, and found the chip after honing. If so just take it as a learning opportunity and fix it.

I'll be the respectful square peg on the topic. I have & will continue to shave w/ a blade that has a nick. I've not nicked my face w/ one so far. If it shaves well, I'd rather live w/ the nick than use up the steel making it uniform. If it doesn't shave well, or the nick is sizeable - that's another story.

There are two schools of thought on chips. Some would never shave with ant chip no matter how small. Other's would shave with a chip as long as it's either in a place that does not contact the skin or is so small you can't feel it when shaving. So I guess you name your poison.

I agree with TBS, however, you stated that the blade had some pitting. Could you possibly be having some microchipping because the bevel was not taken down to good steel?
