Sharper razor after a shave?
My new razor I got from bernando feel's sharper after I shaved with it. Is this the smooth vs toothy I have heard about??
It's hard for me to understand this... Any ideas???

I find the second or third shave to be better than the first one after honing, also the strop can improve the edge.
Straight razor shaving is like motorcycling both require full attention and continuos learning and honing of skills...

Thanked: 247I find that it is as sharp as it's going to get before the honing is even done (once bevel is set). After that it is all refinement and tuning the edge.
It is entirely possible that after considerable stropping you have mellowed the edge to a performance level more befitting your taste.
It is true that the strop really does taylor the edge. (IMO)

Sometimes, depending on what media is used the first shave will be harsh even though you get a great close shave. A shave or two can tame down the harshness. It won't make it sharper though.
