Default How to cut into the beard?

When I shaved my beard I found it hard to get into it. I used a sawing motion, it worked but felt a bit unsafe

    This are the problem area.

If you mean shaving OFF the beard, a sawing motion is definitely wrong. Clearly, reducing the beard's length first makes a lot of sense.
If you mean shaving AROUND your beard I don't understand what you're saying. In fact, I really don't understand the question at all.
Just don't ever use a sawing motion, it's completely wrong and you could easily cut yourself...

Ty, thinking using scissors was cheating, so I didn't

This is before, the tricy part was getting to the skin under the moustache.

But the sawing did not feel right...

Oh OK I get it. I'd still not do sawing
I think removing the bulk of the beard with scissors is perfectly allowable...

I agree, no sawing should be necessary. If you're trying to cut lines I find it's just as easy to part the whiskers with your fingers and then make the cut. Using scissors isn't really "cheating", but the beauty of using a straight is that you don't have to.

You either have one heck of a dull razor or you are the luckiest guy I ever ran into. I put my blade right on the hair line I want to cut from, slowly angling and moving away from the line I make a pass. I moved the razor just a little (1/8") in the wrong direction while it was touching my face and OUCH. I thought "oh down a little and then make the pass" and before I thought about it I did. Once. The sawing action sounds like you were very close to doing the same thing. I do the guillotine pass once in awhile without thinking and consider myself lucky to not be bleeding. Always use the force Luke, that gut feeling may save you some blood.

Will try to part the whiskers if they ever gets long again Sounds a bit smarter then what I did...

I realy don't think the razor are dull, it does ATG rather easy. But I din't want to use force at an 90 angle to my skin.

Wondering about taking the rest of the beard of, but last time I did my kid and gf hated it. Don't want to push my luck!

I was thinking about the logic of this (stupidly, I know, but I have some free time). I was think it doesn't matter how LONG a hair is, you're just cutting THROUGH it...

Cutting with the scissors would certainly help in viewing what you're doing.

Essentially, boiling the whole thing down to its essence, I think we can confidently state we discourage sawing...As fun as it may be; I'm visualising when one returns from some time spent on a desert island, or a sojourn to Egypt or seven weeks and seven days (which is eight weeks, but it sounds better) after the start of the Zombie Apocalypse Scenario when you meet the first 'clean' woman you've seen in some time, and, of course (it goes without saying) you need to be straight razor clean before you procreate.

This is, of course, assuming you have stashed some Proraso or D R Harris soap and/or cream) in your re-purposed WWII canvas Swiss bread bag that also holds your bouldering shoes (they may come in handy for scaling communication towers) or at the very least grabbed a handful of Aloe Vera (or, better, the whole plant).

So, one must secrete one's self away from said 'procreatee' to shave one's beard (that one has grown while fending off zombies and such) and, after proper and thoughtful beard prep, one might (under these circumstances ONLY) resort to a BARE MINIMAL of sawing...

Quite right Carl. A blade is unaware of the length of whisker it is cutting.
