I shave this way because it is a art. In our modern throw away world we have lost alot of the arts and knowledge of how things was done. For example you ask most kids where milk and eggs comes from, they will tell you from the store. Maybe I'm old fashion we need to know where we came from to know where we are going!! As for class I think it comes from the heart of the man. IMO.

I think it is classy, but thats not why I do it, and nobody sees me shave anyway.
I started straight shaving just to try it out, and found I really liked it and quickly developed RAD. One of my friend's wife asked me recently why I choose straight shaving now and what I enjoy about it. I came up with an analogy which I personally find quite fitting...
One can have a cup of tea by dropping a tea bag in a mug and adding hot water, or one can ritualise the process as some asian cultures do. Its not about hurrying, but instead taking one's time, appreciating each and every step and making it an event, and in both cases the experience and end result is better. I find it meditative almost, to block out the outside world and focus on the one task at hand, rather than multi-tasking as is done with most other parts of one's life. Shaving is a time for me, my blade, my brush and my soap only... everything else can wait... which I really like.
Hopefully if I do settle down with a nice lady, she will also find it classy or masculine, will be easier to justify additional shaving based purchases to her that wayIt's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

You could put me in a Silver Ghost dressed to the 9's top hat and all and it would be like putting lipstick on a pig.
Might make some guys classy or debonair but not this one.... and that is fine by me.It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

Not so sure about classy but my wife loves the feel of my face after a shave. In fact, she looks forward to it. I will say that it is my male friends who find it more classy -- if not just plain out right scary -- that I shave with a straight razor. And a couple have shown genuine interest in SR shaving -- and not because they think it is classy. They just like the idea of being so retro.
It's a good life and someone has got to live it.

Thanked: 0my few cents:
when I came to live in a students-dorm I had 3 flatmates shaving with a DE and one with a straight razor; I thought, back then, it was showing that they lacked money to buy normal cartridges (DE) and the guy had a deathwish (straight razor) - for all those mentioned this confirmed my earlier thoughts of them: the DE-users were bums and the str8-user was in a constant depression....
Now my fiancee does it and he told me he did it for the closer shave (true) and because he likes the ritual. Also we're doing quite well so he is not doing it to economize.
Loosing this prejudice -though, as said, it was not solely based on their shaving methodology- needs knowledge on the advantages of the merits of alternative methods (from using cartridges). Therefore: no - you won't look cooler, except for the people that have some knowledge of (aforementioned merits) it as well (which are most probably people haven given up using cartridges as well - and they are certainly not the majority where I live) .
I think you're more cool though: hope this helps you ;-)
