Thanked: 2How come I just shaved and look like I have a 5 o'clock shadow
I go 3-4 passes and still it seems even though I have a BBS shave, it looks as though I have a shadow? I have a pretty thick chin, but even still...

The only thing that comes to mind is the question of how black is your hair. I ask because I've known men with very dense, very black hair that always looked like they needed a shave.

that's most likely your culprit. the few times I have shaved my goatee and mustache it still looks stubbly though it's not. the darker and coarser the hair the more it shows no matter what. only way to not see it is to remove it from the root like waxing, or cut it below skin level; which will lead to burn and ingrown hairs
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.
