    Default A Great Day

What a fantastic day. First work went well and we finished early.

I headed home, first thing I notice my new Semogue Owners Club Boar bristle brush has arrived. So I opened it together with a Miller, added a slice of lime, and fired up the BBQ. Tonight its going to be Hickory Smoked Ribs, so i have some time to kill whilst they cook to perfection on an indirect heat.

I decided on a cold water shave as usual, and chose to face lather with MWF this afternoon, so I start to load the new bush (after washing it) and go to work. The first lather is too wet, so I start again the second too dry, but the third is perfect. I love the way the boar bristle feels on the skin, no smell of new brush either which is a surprise. No decisions on it yet its too early to tell.

I strop my 6/8 Dovo Bismarch for 20 passes and off I go. It glides beautifully on my N to S pass. I splash cold water on, then apply the lather. There is not much in the brush so I reload and off I go. Second pass, a mix of directions XTG. Then cold water splash and re lather, no reload needed this time.

Last night I read about scything strokes on the neck, I have two patches of side growing hair just above my adams apple on each side that are difficult to get at to say the least. So I start scything in small strokes, the blade is passing down and across, if it were not for the sound of hairs being cleanly cut I would have stopped for fear of cutting my self…..I finish the pass and feel…..wait…wait.. the hair is gone!!!! I move to the other side and other hand and off I go, the same!!!! Amazing I feel my neck on both sides…..a first time BSS!!!!! jump for joy or what. I finish tidying up and feel my entire face, a total BSS, smooth as!!!!!!! Oh Happy Day!!!!

I finish with a cold water splash, Alum, a splash of cold water, dry face then apply Proraso Balm, let it soak in while I apply Bounder moustache wax to the mo, then a splash of Proraso Aftershave to finish. I can't stop touching my face!!!!! No irritation, SMOOTH on MY NECK….. WOW WOW WOW…

Excited or what…… Another beer and the Ribs should be done….A Great Day Indeed.

Great days are often followed by not so great days…I guess thats what helps a great day seem so great I guess.

Today, I was moving a chair (in bare feet) and removed my toenail on my pinkie net to my big toe. Applying the Iodine did not give me the refreshing feel you get as you apply aftershave, in fact I swore which is not common for me at all.

I was so impressed with my shave yesterday I decided to shave again today. I tend to shave every other day, but i was keen to try the Semogue owners club again with MWF and practice the scything motion on my neck.

I soaked the brush while I had my shower and it performed much better today with the MWF. Loaded up well and was great to face lather with for 2 passes and several touch ups. Its not as stiff as I had hoped for but I think thats because the loft is very long?

Well all went well until I got to the scything motion, but what!! Wait!!! no sound of hairs being cleanly cut then Ooch!!! A nick!!! Lets try again on the other side of my neck, no sound, but wiser this time I don't push it. So a DFS, one nick and those pesky patches on my neck remain as usual.

I think, but I'm not wholly sure, (no shave tomorrow to test the theory) that my facial hair needs to be longer (two days growth) to be cut short and cleanly with the scything motion and give me the BBS I long for.

I finished the shave with some Nivea sensitive skin balm (Always use after a nick or a rough shave as it is so soothing) and then after 10mins a splash of Brut which always cheers me up as it reminds me of Home in the UK and days long past.

No wax in the Stache tonight as I may possibly dip it in some hot chocolate before bed….
