Thanked: 60Straight back to Newbie
As you can see from my profile picture I have a mo and soul patch.
Yesterday I decided to remove them both, just for the hell of it. Firstly I was so pleased that my Dovo 6/8 made short work of both. I was left with a little irritation but I put that down to multiple passes and sensitive skin that hasn't been shaved for ages.
But today was like going straight back to being a newbie.
I was still shaving like they were there, still in place. Then I was all "fingers and thumbs" and nervous as I shaved my upper lip and the skin next to my lower lip. No cuts but definable a case of go slow and again a bit of irritation. I only made two passes WTG and XTG, Im not game for ATG on my upper lip for sure at the moment.
However I was conscious my diagonal pass ear to nose can include my upper and lower lips….
What fun, and great to remember the trepidation I had in the beginning….It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

I feel for you Kevin, I've been contemplating removing my goaty of several years and starting again also.
As for the upper lip took me ages to get comfortable with ATG so progressed as follows,
I had many shaves of WTG with a XTG from outside working in leaving it a that as I wasn't comfy with the ATG on my upper lip at all (just kept seeing me slip and cut my nose off LOL)
Finally seen a video of a lad just can't remember who it was, and came down to using 2 hands holding the razor very flat on my upper lip and moving very steadily up, came over it pretty quick but still use 2 hands LOL.
But I must admit my early blade was not at its optimum sharpness as they are now, and it needs "no must" be spot on sharp as any tugging etc can cause you to bounce and you will definitely see your nose being altered in the mirrorSaved,
to shave another day.

That's how I do the Fool's Pass too. And yes, if I'm not confident in the blade's sharpness I don't do it. As tou shave upward from the lip, try a very slight chevron outward from philtrum toward cheekbone: sort of splitting the diff b/w xtg and atg.
And, check your environment: feet flat on floor w/ no towels or loose rugs, away from swinging bathroom doors, etc.Keep your pivot dry!

Thanked: 60I tried that…no ta…scary stuff, I see why it's called the fools pass.
Sticking with wtg and a diagonal xtg from nose out…. close enough for me for sure…..It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness
