Thanked: 4irritating
So i started changing my second(xtg)pass to go the opposite direction since i figured i have a lot of hair that swirls atg in that direction i thought i would make my clean up easier. this means i was shaving blade going towards my ear instead of away from it. i then tried changing my third pass to pulling my skin in the direction of the grain instead of away from it. the difference wound up being a whole bunch of cuts and weepers.
so now I'm back to shaving the way i was but I'm still getting nicks nowhere near as bad but still there. so now I'm looking at my pre shave oil as its the only other thing I've changed recently. buy technically preshave oil should be reducing cuts.
i have seven razors and all of them are doing it. I'm just frustrated. ive shaved de a couple days no problem. went back to the straight today.
grrr.

Thanked: 129This may seem like contra advice but have you tried without pre shave oil? Sometimes the oil can grab the blade and slightly change the angle, also the oil can get in to the pores and lift the follicle which then gets caught by the blade causing weepers. If you are going to try XTG I would recommend one pass ear to nose then XTG nose to ear it's all about beard reduction as you move to the more aggressive passes.
I have hair that grows in all directions it's a nightmare but this approach catches them all needless to say don't apply ANY pressure let the razor do the work.
I have started to use a very hot towel before each pass and this has improved my shaves immensely.
Let us know if this helps
