    Before I learnt how to hone I would just micro chips like that by running the tip of my finger nail along the edge. If you could noticeably feel the chip then best get it fixed. If you couldn't noticeably feel the chip then you won't notice it when shaving so it was OK to use.

    Firstly welcome, I note that you have a new profile. Why not see if there is someone in your area who can mentor you, it was one of the best things I did. Beyond that, do a test pass carefully, this is where you shave the flattest easiest part of your face from the sideburn to the jowl of your chin. Make sure to have a few days growth and that you keep light pressure, right angle etc. If you have had a successful shave without any major irritation before you noticed the nick then you should be right with the test pass. If the blade rips your face off..... Send it out to get re honed!
    A good lather is half the shave.
