Default First semi decent shave with a straight

    Morning fellow enthusiasts.
Had my first successful shave last night with a solid straight.
I had got one of those cheap GD blades to practise my honing and stropping, and it produced a passable shave. I am sure I can get it sharper and smoother but for now I am happy to have had at least one enjoyable shave..
Have to keep working on that acron i acquired as Its still not cutting the mustard, so to speak

Good to hear. I'm sure you will more than appreciate when you finally upgrade to something better.

Congratulations, that's the first milestone. Let's hope it only gets better from here on out. One thing you might consider would be to have a razor professionally honed to give you a reference blade.. something to shoot for as your honing skills improve.

Thats The plan Though it also has to wait awhile as I am now a Poor struggling student again lol. Though my local barber reckons he can get a pretty good edge on his SE so I might have to see if we can do a deal somehow maybe sweep and serve his customers for a day for one pro hone.

It's easier to maintain a well honed blade than start from scratch and learn as you go, improving bit by bit.

With this said, it's exactly how I started and there's likely something to be said for it - I can hone rather well now but it was frustrating at the beginning.

I'd really try and get it honed properly but as you say, if money is tight, needs must.
