Thread: Magnetic Razor

I have been looking for a big Sheffield wedge for about a year and recently became a caretaker of one. I have a few other razors and I like all of them and until this Greaves I would sort of rotate through the collection...I did seem to favor one or two more than the others. But now all of my razors seem to exist only to make me extra happy to come back to the Greaves. I still like my other razors but clearly one has captured my heart. Is this something that will wear off or have others experienced something similar?

I have quite a few old sheffields, the sizes and grinds vary, my hands down favorite by a long shot is not my W&B it is my Fredrick Reynolds wedges. I have three and they never let me down. I always have one in rotation, usually a 7/8.

Ah, favored razor syndrome! Yes, you will like a given razor for quite a while. I still have a couple that have remained in my rotation for years.
Remember, steel, face, prep, and hand are what make the shave.
Enjoy a "Do not never sell razor" They are hard to find.

My problem is that every razor I have (WAY TOO MANY!) is a "Do Not Ever Sell" razor...

I know it is a serious problem. I have even approached the idea of therapy for my OCD behavior. But then, when I consider that the money spent for just 1 session with a psychologist, if saved instead, would afford me the opportunity to purchase another quality vintage blade...well...see my problem?

I'm going through the same thing with a little notched Torrey that I found at an antique store. It was chipped and dirty and didn't look like much at first glance so I almost passed on it, but the price was right. I think the Charlie Brown appeal is part of what makes it a favorite. Every time I look at it I think "look what you almost missed".

The only razor i wouldn't sell is my W&B meat-cleaver-like weapon of follicular destruction. The others I'm not too fussed and although they still shave well, they lack something.

It must be a Sheffield thing

I'm not sure its a sheffield thing. This morning I pulled out a "plain Jane" Robeson 5/8 full hollow round point that just really has no sex appeal. My rationale was that I had used it very little since I got it, Mainly loaning it out to newbies that need a "beginner" razor. I have numerous Robesons and seem to get awesome shaves with them, so why not give this one a try today...

Well, today's shave was as fine as ANY I have received from my herd of razors. I am duly impressed with this little common razor and again reinforcing my belief that Robesons are great, if unappreciated (they tend to go cheap on fleabay) razors!

Well now the secret is out!!

Problem is there are a billion razor brands, lots of obscure brands that are as good or better shavers as the "high end" razors...luckily for me im pretty sure I own about one of each lol. Using them you always have favorites you grow attached to though...like a best friend you havent seen in a while.
