    Default O.K., i'm ready

I completed my first shave with a straight razor a couple of days ago. All I had was the razor and a can of Barbasol. Egads, I know. I've scarred some of you for life. The first one didn't go as well as the second one, still with the Barbasol.
So I searched and searched my little one horse town. CVS, Rite Aid(found some soap there), Walmart, Big Lots, a couple of local Barber shops. You get the picture. I was batting zero.
Then I needed to go to the grocery store. Low and behold, there in the shaving aisle, Van Der Hagen's "premium" shaving kit.

So I'm ready, now. It really seems silly for a 50 year old man to be so excited about using a cheap brush, bowl, and soap to do something so mundane and every day as shave the whiskers off of his face, but I can't wait.

Silly,,,,,,silly ? Are you saying we are all silly ? :<0) Enjoy it man. I hated shaving until I found straights and I tell anyone who wants to hear about it.

Don't worry about scarring other SR shavers, we know that finally wet shaving gets you and soon you will be asking here about different kind of straights and soaps and showing what is yours last buy, asking how many razors or soaps are too much

Your way to start straight razor shaving is as good as any other way. Regardless of age you are excited to learn skill that is quite awesome, that will carry you through problems and cuts to finish line. Well, actually I'm not sure if there is finish line... more like marathon that starts over and over again

    Have a nice shave!

I've already been online (SR Designs) plugging soaps into my shopping cart.

Went well. 3 complete passes, and pretty much BBS. i can't believe I waited so long to try SR shaving. Now, after only 3 shaves, I think anything else would feel weird to me, lol.
I also can't believe how incredibly C O O L it feels to shave with a straight razor. I need to start thinking about acquiring a couple more for backup.

Like I said, wet shaving gets you sooner or later... and when it gets you, there is no way out. Once a wetshaver, always a wetshaver

All beginners, at any skill, are flying somewhat blind. All journeymen, however, still have things to learn and must stay teachable. You are doing exceedingly well for your skill level and experience due in large part to your enthusiasm Sir! Excitement is one element that can't be bought, taught or faked. You have it, and so you are ahead of the game. Here's to hoping you stay enthusiastic about what once was a mundane task.

I don't find it silly at all. I was 80 when I started and I'm nowhere near my second childhood yet.

Scarred? yes we all have them, I have a little one on the side of my cheek, welcome to the club ROFL. Enjoy the beginning it is fun, so many razors, so many new things to learn. Remember angle of the blade and strop slowly until the muscle memory kicks in.
A good lather is half the shave.

Buddy, when I joined the Army at 17, i despised shaving. Hated it. Horrible. Can of goop, razor, and get it done. now, i'm 26, discovered the old way, and can't wait to shave every single day. Nothing is silly about shaving when you're properly equipped to do so.
