Thanked: 1184Great gear ! You'll get it. The strop is harder to learn than the shave for some. Your dexterity will determine how fast you pick all this up. Hope your learning is smooth and cut free :<0) Welcome to SRP.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Sounds like you have made a promising start to your journey in Straight Razor shaving.
Congratulations on making the choice to learn the art of shaving.
The hones you have chosen will serve you very well for a number of years.
My experience with the Naniwa combination 3000/8000 hone has been very satisfactory and the 12000 hone will be a great finisher.
Enjoy your time hereRickyB

Thanked: 1Thanks for the vote of confidence I feel that I'm off to a fairly good start not to many problems considering I jumped in with both feet and started right off shaving face and the part if my head
that I shave.

I am still a newbie but getting more comfortable. What I have learned is to go slow, with short even strokes. And it anything catches, I life the razor from my face immediately (some advice I got here at SRP). I've had a few nicks and some razor burn but nothing serious after about 6 weeks of shaving with my SR. Yes, it felt rough at first but gets better with each shave. And stropping gets easier too. It felt really uncomfortable at first but I've found my technique and feel better about stropping without messing up the blade. I use a Dovo Bismarck 6/8" and it works very nicely for me. And good luck to you. Nice looking shavers BTW.
It's a good life and someone has got to live it.

I'm following your journey with great interest. Two shaves for me so far. Pretty rough. No blood but a few hours later it's like I haven't shaved at all. Please keep us all informed.

I had the same exact issues and chalked it up to bad honing. I now have a new straight and it's going out to be honed professionally and see what the end result is!! I feel better knowing I wasn't the only one with this experience !!! And one last thing, jumping in with both feet is the best way to learn at lest in my opinion!!Aaron
