Default Question about Chin and Upper Lip?

It has been a week since I got into straight razors and so far I am very happy with the results.

I have noticed that most the nicks i get are in the Chin and Upper lip area? And generally speaking the shave there is not as clean as I would like.

Any advice on how to maneuver the blade in this area to avoid nicks and second to get a cleaner shave

    Thanks

I tend to lower the shaving angle for these areas.

Agree with X and I would add that the mustache and chin areas have most of the weird angles when shaving. Make sure you take it slow and scrinch your face and chin as necessary to ensure stretching of the skin. These are both areas that take practice, but once you get them down, usually one pass handles them.

    good luck.

Also agree with X, lowering the angle is one of the keys to getting a good shave on the chin, and a little practice with different strokes and making funny faces in the mirror. I find that thrusting my chin out and down while peeling my bottom lip up over my teeth works well. Looks stupid, but works well, and that's what matters. I lower the angle to probably10 degrees or so while going down to the jawline. Steep angle to be sure, but nothing else seems to work for me. After that, the hard part is coming in towards the neck, but that just requires a different kind of stretching. Try different thing and see what works for you, you'll be amazed what you discover about your own face. Like Lynn says, after you figure it out, one pass normally gets them. Even after only doing this for three months, it is not very often that I have to go back for another pass on the chin and upper lip.

For my chin, I actually place my hand next to it and stretch the skin to get it really taut. It's still a trick to shave, though.
