Wondering if your favorite razor in your rotation is also the most valuable razor...in the monetary sense?
My fav is a F. Reynolds.
My most "collectable" is probably the old Bengall wedge.
DAve
My rotation is only 8 razors at the moment but I guess the answer is yes. I love my Hart 6/8 satin round point. It may not be worth the most but I definitely paid the most. I skip other razors to shave with the Hart
My favorite is a Joseph Elliot 6/8 smiling wedge. It's covered in pits and is quite the ugly blade. But it never fails to deliver a great shave. It's smaller and easier to maneuver than some of my other big boys. It is by no means worth the most in my collection. It's my work horse along with a few others. I look forward to when it's turn comes up in my rotation.
I love all of mine!! Haha! I have only three blades in operation, but I go through phases where I'll shave with each one for a week before rotating to the next. I probably spend the most time with my Bismarck, though; but, the antique Böker wedge and extra hollow are hardly forgotten.
my favorite is my smiley near wedge wostenholm. gives great shaves with a great feel. it's also probably the most collectible next to my DD goldedge (which i don't really like to shave with). On top of that i got it for a steal which makes me even happier.
i think so
mine is a filarmonica novodur
Most expensive=favorite? No, not really.
I have a Zowada Carbon Series which is an outstanding razor and I like it a ton.
Must say though that I somewhat prefer the performance of my Boker Silver Steel (about 1/3 what the Zowada cost).
How do you pick a favorite? As I look over my collection, there are many that could be given that title on any given day. My Wade & Butcher FBU near wedge is wonderful. It hones up so nicely, taking such a great edge. Its fantastically sharp but delivers a really smooth shave as it plows through stubble like it isn't even there. Plus its been restored to look great but still has years and years of history behind it. Then I look again and see my Bengall hand forged. Its hollow ground and has a simple elegant look. It too takes on a magnificent edge. And speaking of great edges, the Filarmonica Muleta I recently got that came NOS took on an edge that made it live up to its reputation. It shaves so well. But there are also my two Revisors. These are new razors but their steel feels like vintage steel. Its not extremely hard steel like some other new razors. They hone up very nicely, look great, and shave well. Then there are my Friodurs. I don't think I have any other razors I own that require so little maintenance. Once they are honed up, they seem to hold their edge forever. I love my Eiko for its uniqueness. Not only does it seem to get surgically sharp but its has a unique shape and grind. Then there is my Eirene. I love it because it seems to exude class. Full hollow, no stabilizer, three pin design, and it was really the first GOOD razor I purchased. There's no way to choose a favorite but there is one thing that all of my favorites have in common and that's that they are capable of really great edges. Some razors fight you. Sometimes you have to negotiate a decent edge with them that can be as drawn out as negotiating peace talks. My favorites are the ones that make me look like an expert.
My most expensive razor is not my most valuable, nor is it my favorite razor. I have one that stands out far beyond all the others. It is an old, but not anywhere near my oldest razor, JA Henckels 6/8 half hollow. Its take a wicked edge. I shave with it periodically, for special events, and if I'm feeling a little nostalgic. It was purchased new by my great-grandfather, I have had it for 34 years.
No, not really.
The most expensive does not necessarily have to be the best in terms of quality of shave.
Yes, but that may be because I only own two.
I love shaving with my chopped ERN ATOR (such a sweet edge!), but I have no idea of what its monetary value would be.
Although I haven't shaved with it yet, my 8/8ths Wade & Butcher Celebrated will no doubt be my most expensive razor when Glen finishes working on it.
My favorite is my best shaver and my most valuable and most collectible. Its a 9/8 George wostenholm smiley.

I hate to be a "razor whore", but I think it's whichever one I just used successfully that is my favorite.
As a real life example, of the five I have in my rotation, my original 1980s Hoffitz 5/8 is the one I've had the most success with, BUT, after my recent bout of Hone, Strop and paste/spray acquisition disorder, I am now equipped to refresh my razors.
I immediately touched up my Hoffritz with my new Naniwa 12k and then CrOx, and after stropping, shaved with it and it was a hit and clearly still #1... at least UNTIL I got the SRD modular paddle strop with Diamond spray, and yesterday I put the other 4 through a Diamond spray on felt, CrOx on another felt, rough leather, smooth leather stropping routine. When I picked up my Boker 6/8 Silver Steel today and shaved, it was a heavenly experience and it is clearly now my favorite...probably until I hit the next one in rotation, a Dovo Prima Klang tomorrow.
Oh well, I'll just have to admit I'm not monogamous when it comes to razors.
In my case it seems the cheaper the razor the better then shave. My first and least favorite (doesn't mean I don't like to use it) is my most expensive which was a brand new Dovo Pearlex. My cheapest and best razor which I won from here on the give away is a Genco 4/8's and I absolutely love that razor. Its fast and easy to hone, takes a phenomenal edge that last forever, and it feels like a squeegee no matter how many days growth I have. And the rest follow suit. Same with my hones too. My favorite stone is one I got for free and its a Surgical Black Arkie. Puts a buttery smooth edge on anything it touches. Then next is a vintage coti/bbw combo that I got for 5 bucks and so on and so forth.
My favorite razor of any that I've ever used is an old fried. dennert razor. It is pefectly dead nuts straight, very fine grained, extremely hollow (with a tiny bevel), but with a little bit of bulk in the spine. It seems to get functionally sharp from anything, and very keen from a proper fine razor stone, it loves a linen and it loves the strop and will go for a very long time before it needs the stone again just from strop and leather. Every little bit about it is just right except for a small bit of corrosion and a little scratching around that from me, before I knew what I was doing - and tried to pick the corrosion off with a carbide scribe - that could easily be rectified.

I doubt that it's particularly valuable, and it was the second razor I ever bought, and I paid $65 for it at the time I got it (which I thought was a princely sum back then). I'm now down to three razors, after going through probably 36 or so of them, and it is still the only razor that I've ever had that I wouldn't ever sell for any reason. Three years ago when I made that post, I was mired in RAD and was in a "oh, i think this one might be my favorite" mode, and now there is absolutely no doubt. The only problem is that I can't find another one of it to have a spare in case I would ever do something stupid.
my favorite is a 20 dollar Kinfolks blue steel, none I have will take an edge like it and smooth, but right behind it is my Bruno blade that Glen finished for me , its the most fun to use and the shave is just perfect, maybe after a few more shaves it will give the Kinfolks a run ,,, tc
-1. I love being a razor whore. :D
I called it quits with a Rolls, two DE's and eight straights in regular use. I had to think this over for a bit. If it's in regular use it got there on performance, not price. The Rolls was free and it shaves me as well as the best. I just gave away one of my favorite straights; it cost $20 plus a professional honing. Most of the rest were well under 100 clams and they all charm me through every shave. The DE's? Easy - the more costly Gillette Slim is the best except when I use the less costly Merk 1904. In both cases with the safety razors I'd say my favorite edge is, coincidentally, one of the least costly per/100 count blades.
I cannot correlate cost and favoriteness.
I couldn't possibly pick one favorite amongst the herd. I have some that I don't care a whit about, but others that are favorites. Even if I rarely get around to them.
Favorite - Filarmonica 8/8 #14 - have used it once a week for years and have never had to take it to a hone
Most expensive - Bartman 6/8 High Class - mint in box - the only razor I have that I will never shave with
My favorite is not my most valuable. It's a Red Dot Razor that just shaves perfectly.
Every day it changes to the one I use that day
My favorite(s) are twins...........
None of my razors is particularly valuable. I have a Boker SS St. Louis and a 9/16" Genco Grant. Both of them restored and honed by me. Both are wonderful razors, but the Genco takes top spot. I love the smaller size, and I get a finer edge on it with less time than the Boker, and the little monster stays wicked sharp. Love it.

AntiqueHoosier: staggeringly beautiful....a small treasure chest. Thanks for the pic again....I'll never tire of looking at them.
http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...lection-3.html Not sure if these are the same razors as yours, post 27, by Thaeris, but the sun coming through the scales.....one of the most beautiful pics on the site.
My favorite is by far my least expensive. I found her in a toolbox of all things at a local flea market. Asked the guy what he wanted for it - he said "I'd like $8, but will take $6." A new set of homemade scales, sandpaper to remove some age and a set of hones later - she might be worth only a little more than $6, but certainly the one I skip to in my rotation when I am looking for a special shave.

Tough question..do I really have to pick just one?? I'd have to say lately my kenny Powell custom after tuning her up on the hones she is truly a great shaver
This one, it's a little rough shaving though.

While I enjoy using each and every razor that I'm the current custodian of, without a doubt, this one is the King of my Castle:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/membe...lemans-den.jpg
I have 34 razors and some are $300-600, the ones that shave me the closest are my 5 $10 razors. An Artraco and a T Noonan Liberty
I have a few!
My most valuable money wise is a limited edition Wacker 15/16" (one of only 16 made), and thats definitely a favourite.
I also really love my restored Sheffields, some of which I picked up for peanuts but have since cleaned up, rescaled and honed. I have a couple of W&B's, a Reynolds and few others.
I also love my DD's.
Basically I cant decide haha! :P
I was trying to thin the herd a while ago and I kept trying to pick a top five, but no dice. So I still have them all hehe!
I definitely agree with the general sentiment expressed here so far! It can be tough to pick a favorite, and monetary value of a razor does not necessarily correlate with the enjoyment of the shaving experience with said razor!
The word "favorite" often excites the imagination. Today my favorite is these three. Sweet shavers........

As of this moment my favorite razor is an eBay Clauss (maybe $29 w/shipping). It's my favorite because it's the first of my 38 razors that I have successfully honed from bevel setting to damn good shave ready off of a Norton 8k. And it is day four of using it (out of rotation so I can see how the edge ages) and it is still like a day one shave.
