With the razors i master i usually go another direction opposite to de second in the picture. Just enough pressure on the razor allows me to do that.

Whatever works for you is fine. I got that drawing from Pinterest. I think the blood red arrows caught my eye.

I don't like the way hat the second picture seems to suggest going into a slicing motion. I'm sure it assumes that you'll change the blade orientation, but for beginners, that's a dangerous graphic.

I concur Deepweeds. The slicing motion depicted is very misleading and dangerous.

It also indicates a one-handed shave. Using both hands you would hold the razor in your left hand for that pass.

I am glad I did not learn to shave like this. The against the grain looks like you would not be able to see the razor on your neck. It even looks like his eyes are closed in the picture.

Different strokes for different folks ....... I shave with a slicing motion quite a bit. Not as that is depicted, but a slicing motion nonetheless.

I shave all right hand. Not everyone feels the need to swap hands. Nothing wrong with swapping hands, I tried it and it wasn't for me. The old YMMV.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yeah that second graphic makes me cringe.. I use scything strokes on almost every stroke, except that last two when I edge the lines.. But that depiction could be way way way better...

A guy that I know upon his first shave, did motion 2 exactly as depicted. He survived...with a scar. Said it looked like someone had butchered an animal in the bathroom.
